Among Women 243: Be Brave in the Scared

July 10, 2019

In this episode:

“Blessed are They”: St. Teresa of Avila; St. Catherine of Siena

“Among Women” Guest: Mary Lenaburg

This episode offers a powerful conversation with Mary Lenaburg, author of Be Brave in the Scared that details her vocation as a wife and mother, with a particular emphasis on the faith and life lessons that accompanied her 22 years as Courtney’s mother. Mary’s daughter lived most of her life with profound disabilities, but her short life made a beautifully profound impact in the lives of those who knew her.

I also spend some time unpacking some of the Bible verses that have been anchors for me in times of fear, and, in the Blessed are They segment, I unpack inspiration from St. Teresa of Avila and St. Catherine of Siena.

Wisdom from the Saints:

From St. Teresa of Avila:

Let nothing disturb you,

nothing cause you fear.

All things pass; God is unchanging.

Patience obtains all.

Whoever has God needs nothing else;

God alone suffices.”

Quotes from St. Catherine of Siena:

“Nothing great is ever achieved without much enduring.”

“Proclaim the truth and do not be silent through fear.”

“…the soul always fears until she arrives at true love.”

Among Women 184: Show Me, Lord, That I’m Beautiful

September 26, 2014

This episode:

“Blessed are They”: St Catherine of Siena

“Among Women” Guest: Michelle Ducker

This week, in our first segment, we look at a miraculous conversion story from the life of St Catherine of Siena wrought through the power of prayer. In a similar vein, in our second segment, we meet a modern woman with her own story of transformation.

Life with Jesus Christ has the power to change every aspect of our lives. University of Miami Campus Minister Michelle Ducker candidly shares her life and work in this extended interview. Michelle’s story shows us that when we let Jesus do the heavy lifting, he’ll heal our hearts and minds and bring us joy, truth, and true beauty — the kind that shines from the inside out! Michelle reflects on several years of her life, including her walking away from a modeling career, dealing with illness, and wrestling with body and self-image issues. Today she shares what she has overcome in and through Christ, and how she walks with others so that they may experience friendship in Christ, and discover true beauty and love.

Among Women 144: The Single Life Survival Guide

September 12, 2012

This week’s episode:

“Blessed are They”: St. Catherine of Siena

“Among Women” Guest: Emily Stimpson

This week, I recap my hiatus from AW with details about the Catholic New Media Conference, and seeing my book get some pre-release attention at the Catholic Markeing Network.*

Then, we look at the lives of two single women who are separated by a few centuries. In the “Blessed Are They” segment, we meet St. Catherine of Siena, a Dominican tertiary, in her words of The Dialogue, and get a look inside the heart of a saint. In our “Among Women” segment we meet Emily Stimpson, author of The Catholic Girl’s Survival Guide for the Single Years: The Nuts and Bolds of Staying Sane and Happy While Waiting for Mr. Right. Our conversation looks inside a few of the chapters of this wise and witty book.
